Why did some of my mussels have broken shells?

All Pier 33 Gourmet products are inspected at the plant prior to being packaged for retail and broken shells are not allowed in any single pack. After leaving our control, there are times during transportation or when the product arrives at the stores that the boxes are dropped or crushed, resulting in broken shells or shell particles becoming present.
